Howard Pierce started his ceramics business in 1945 when he established a one-kiln pottery in Claremont, CA. In 1968 he moved to Joshua Tree with his family and continued sculpting. He is well known for his bird & animal porcelain figurines, which are now sought by collectors.

He re-constructed the "Myrtle The Turtle" sculpture that can be seen in the center of Joshua Tree on the highway. His large sculptures can also be seen in Yucca Valley outside the Hi-Desert Nature Museum and the Library, in Joshua Tree at Copper Mountain College, the Hi-Desert Playhouse, and the Hi-Desert Hospital, and in 29 Palms at the Marine Corps Base, and at some of the local schools. He donated his kiln to Copper Mountain College and his numerous small bird and animal figurines can be purchased at local antique stores. Howard Pierce retired in 1968, although he continued to make ceramics & sculptures until he died in 1994.

As there are so many examples of his sculptures I have sorted them into categories. Shown below are just a few of my favorites. If you wish to see more, please click on one of the categories to the right.
